Meera Bai story

Meera Bai, a 16th-century Hindu poet and devotee of Krishna. She was born in a Rajput royal family in Rajasthan. In her childhood days she was told that she is the wife of Krishna. This instilled unwavering devotion into her. Under the guidance of her grandfather, Rao Duda, she visited many pilgrimage and learned about the pastime of Lord Krishna which deepened her love for Krishna.

One day, a saint appeared at her house with a deity of Lord Krishna, who was named Girdhar. She desperately wanted the deity but she couldn’t ask the saint. Lord Krishna appeared in the saint’s dream and told him to give the deity to Meera. bestowed upon her in a dream. Overjoyed, Meera dedicated herself to serving the deity devotedly. She offered many poems to the deity which is sang to the date.

Her parents’ were worried since, Meera remained steadfast in her devotion, and rejected marriage proposals. Later she was married to Prince Bhoj Raj of Mewar. But, her commitment to Krishna remained paramount which resulted strained relations with her husband. After Bhoj Raj’s death in battle, Meera faced accusations from her in-laws due to her unconventional behavior, including singing and dancing in temples.

The events of Meera’s death remain controversial, with different accounts placing it in Dwarika or Vrindavan. While some suggest her in-laws poisoned her, many saints believe she left her body while singing Krishna’s praises and dancing before his deity. It is believed that her disappearance, left only her clothes behind, further adds to the mystique surrounding her passing.

Meera Bai is honored as a saint and an inspiration for those who practice Bhakti Yoga. Her poems are still sung and loved today. Her life is a shining example of faith and devotion, encouraging people to strengthen their bond with the divine. Many stories and events celebrate her legacy, ensuring it is remembered by future generations.
