Who is Chaitanya Mahaprabhu?

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also known as Lord Gauranga is united form of Radha and Krishna’s energy. Krishna himself incarnated as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu for three reasons;

a) To relish the position of Radharani.

b) To feel what and how Radharani feels for him.(krishna)

c) To taste the transcendental pleasure Radharani tasted

He appeared in this mortal world in 18th February 1486 in Navadvip, West Bengal. His mother is Sachi devi and father is Jaganaath Mishra. He established roots of Gaudiya Vaishnavism himself and through his six followers also called Sat Goswamis. He is also known as devotee incarnation of Radha and Krishna. His life was too mystical and all the events that occurred around him were transcendental, only understood by his closest associates.

Here I have collected 10 events from his life that are jaw dropping. The events are so mesmerizing that normal people would find it difficult to believe it.

1) Wild animals danced with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Once when Lord Chaitanya travelled through the forest of Jharkhand. He was absorbed in chanting holy name and dancing. When they reached a little deep in forest there were wild animals. Balabhadra, personal servant of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who was also travelling with him was scared to see wild animals. But his presence made them peaceful.

When he came across tiger he placed he placed his lotus feet on his head and said Chant the holyname of krishna. The tiger, in tears, jumped raised his arm and began to chant “Krishna, Krishna” and began to dance with Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. (CC Madhya 17.29 )

Later the elephant, deer, peacocks and even the creepers became ecstatic. All living entities danced and sang with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

2) Chaitanya Mahaprabhu mystically escaped from closed room

Before the disappearance from this mortal world Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stayed in Gambhira for twelve years. Gambhira was house of Kashi Mishra currently in Orrisha. We can still find kamandalu, quilt and paduka of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu there. He performed inconceivable pastimes there in Gambhira. He would go in extreme transcendental platform in separation from Lord. Sometimes the devotees would lock him in Gambhira at night but he would be seen around the temple of Jaganaath and sometime in sea side.

3) Chaitanya Mahaprabhu accepted renunciation at age 24

Usually renunciation or sannyasa is taken after 70 years old. But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu took sanyasa at age 24. One has to shaved one’s head to take sanyasa. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had beautiful curly hair. The barber who shaved his hair withdrew his job as a barber after cutting Mahaprabhu’s hair. He found himself to be cruel shaving such a beautiful hair.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu shaved his hair and took renunciation early to fulfill the purpose of his appearance. He travelled to many places and fulfilled all his pastimes and freed many souls from material misery

4) Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s touch melted stones

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu felt so much separation from Krishna that his emotions would melt stones and walls. There are evidence found in Odisha where we can find hand print of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu inside the temple of Jaganaath Puri. Whenever we took darshan of Lord he would he would feel so much separation. There is print of his three fingers in wall of Jaganaath Puri.

Also we can find the melted floor in Alarknath, Odisha. The floor melted when the offered obeisance to the Lord.

5) Whoever met Chaitanya Mahaprabhu got spiritually enlightened

He is also said to be ocean of mercy. Whoever met him, felt ecstatic spiritual love and connection. There are thousands of example in his lifetime where people easily got chance to go back to spiritual realm just by looking at him. He not only liberated people in mode of goodness but also those in ignorance, wild animals, dogs and most fallen beings.

Whoever would hear him sing holyname would feel currents of love of God, whoever he would touch whether be animal or human would take Krishna’s name. What to talk about his associates? His associates exhibited highest standard of spirituality.

6) Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Shadbhuj form

The detail explanation of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Shadbhuj form is found in Chaitanya Chandrodaya, Chaitanya Bhagavat and Chaitanya Charitamrita. Shadbhuj form represents Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.

In Chaitanya Chadrodaya it is mentioned that this form of Lord is revealed to Lord Nityananda which is little different than standard form because it had Conch, Chakra, Mace, Lotus, Flute and Bow. In Chaitanya Charitamrita and Chaitanya Bhagvata it is mentioned that his form is revealed to Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya which is six armed form.

Mysterious disappearance of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

He disappeared from this mortal world in 14 June 1534 when he was 48. There were people who saw him disappeared mystically in three places. First few people saw him disappear within deity of Lord Jaganaath in Odisha. Other people saw him enter at the lotus feet of deity Tota Gopinath while other people saw him singing holyname and disappear in the sea.

We can still find a small scratch in lotus feet of Tota Gopinath at Odisha.
